One eSIM or separate plans?

One eSIM

Keep one data line across all three countries. Taiwan must be listed alongside Japan and South Korea; a plan that covers the first two does not automatically cover the third.

Separate eSIMs

Match each allowance to the length of that stay. The lowest-price setup may use two or three eSIMs; check their assigned stops and remember that separate balances are not pooled.

More on regional and local plans

Using your phone in Japan, Korea and Taiwan

Rail journeys in Japan
Japan Travel by NAVITIME helps with train routing and rail-pass options for the first leg of your trip.
Directions in South Korea
Use NAVER Maps for navigation in English; k.ride is another useful app to set up if you plan to take taxis.
High-speed trains in Taiwan
Taiwan High Speed Rail’s T-EX app handles high-speed rail bookings and mobile tickets. Follow its ticket-collection instructions before boarding.

Prepare your apps for all three stops

Install and sign in before departure, while you can receive any verification texts. These eSIMs provide data, without a Japanese, Korean or Taiwanese phone number.

For Korean restaurant bookings, CATCHTABLE Global lets you sign up without a Korean number. Other apps and bookings can have different requirements, so check them before traveling.

Save each hotel’s address and your airport-to-hotel directions for offline access before every flight.

Before you go

What if I return to Japan before flying home?

Add Japan again as the final stop. The comparison checks data for both visits and validity through your time in Korea and Taiwan, including dated gaps between stays.

Can unused Korean data be used in Taiwan?

Only if it is on the same eSIM and that plan includes Taiwan. Data left on a Korea-only eSIM cannot be transferred to a separate Taiwan plan.

Can I share data with a laptop or another phone?

Open Change under Your usage and select sharing to require hotspot support. Sharing uses your eSIM’s data and only works while the devices stay nearby.

Will these eSIMs work on my phone?

Your phone must be carrier-unlocked and eSIM-compatible.

Check your phone

When should I install and activate these eSIMs?

Install with reliable internet before departure and keep each travel line off until its covered part of the trip begins. The live plans we list start validity on first connection in a covered destination. Check each selected plan’s activation deadline after purchase.

Installation and activation guide

Can I keep my usual number?

On a compatible dual-SIM phone, keep your home line for its number and use the travel eSIM for data. Disable home-line data roaming and automatic data switching. Calls and SMS, including verification texts, depend on your home carrier and may incur charges.

Keep your number abroad
