ShrimpToastInstallation and activation are different
Installation adds the eSIM to your phone. Activation starts the plan’s service period. The live plans in our catalog start validity on first connection in a covered destination, rather than installation alone. Other providers may use different rules.
Each plan also has a deadline for activation after purchase. Check Details before paying, particularly if you are buying well ahead of departure. The plan’s validity and its activation deadline are separate limits.
Before departure: install on reliable internet
First check eSIM compatibility and carrier unlock. After payment, open My eSIMs for the purchased eSIM’s installation instructions. Follow the device-specific steps using a reliable internet connection; keep the instructions accessible if you need to switch between them and Settings.
Give the new line a recognizable label, such as Travel. Keep it switched off until the covered part of your trip begins. If your home country is included in the package, enabling it at home could start validity before your flight.
At arrival: choose the travel line for data
Enable the travel eSIM, select it for mobile data and turn on data roaming for that line as instructed. Keep data roaming off on your home line and disable automatic mobile-data switching so your phone does not quietly fall back to home-carrier data.
Follow the purchased plan’s instructions for any additional settings. Give the phone time to register on a supported network. If it does not connect, use Get help for that eSIM in My eSIMs while you have internet access.
Count stopovers and return visits
A covered airport stopover can be your first connection and start the clock. If you want the plan for a later destination, keep it off during that stop and use another available connection.
Once validity starts, switching the eSIM off does not pause it. A return visit still needs to fit inside the same validity period, and days spent outside coverage can still consume that time. Check the whole calendar, not just the days of active use.
Keep the installed profile while troubleshooting
Do not delete an eSIM as a first attempt to fix a connection. Reinstallation or transfer may be restricted, and a QR code should not be assumed reusable. Start with the guided checks for that purchased service.
The eSIM supplies mobile data, without a new phone number or calls and SMS allowance. If you also want your home number available, review the separate dual-SIM guidance and your carrier’s roaming terms before leaving.
