These examples use the same daily assumptions as our planner, including its 20% buffer. They are estimates of data needed, not plans for sale or promises about how much an app will use.
Basics suits checking maps and messages. Normal adds regular scrolling and music. Heavy makes more room for video and uploads. Work / Hotspot assumes heavier use, but a day full of video meetings can exceed it.

Use your own history when you can
Look at mobile-data usage in your phone settings or carrier app over a known period. Check the dates carefully: a usage counter that has never been reset will not tell you what you use in a week. Divide a comparable period by its days, then adjust for the way you will travel.
You may use less data with hotel Wi-Fi and downloaded maps, or more while navigating unfamiliar streets and sharing photos. If you expect to work away from Wi-Fi, include the laptop as well as the phone.
Watch video, backups and hotspot use
Video quality, autoplay and meeting length can change your needs substantially. Download entertainment over Wi-Fi and review cloud-photo uploads, app updates and backup settings before departure.
A laptop can run background downloads that are easy to miss on a small phone allowance. Check that your selected plan explicitly supports hotspot, and pause large updates when sharing its connection. Each independent eSIM has its own allowance; data is not pooled across a family’s phones.
Data and validity are separate
Enough gigabytes will not rescue a plan that expires halfway through your trip. Match its validity to the whole period you need it, including gaps between covered stops. On a multi-country trip, also check that each eSIM has enough data for the stops assigned to it.

Leave room for a change of plans
The planner’s 20% buffer is a starting allowance for uncertainty, not a guarantee. Choose more room if your actual usage varies widely or you depend on mobile data for work.
Do not assume every plan can be topped up. After purchase, My eSIMs shows any compatible additions available for that eSIM. Check your remaining data during the trip and plan ahead before it runs out.
