Questions before you go?
How do I choose a plan for Italy?
For a Rome–Florence–Venice trip, choose validity that includes your arrival, departure and travel days. Think about walking directions, train updates and the guides you will use along the way. Download tickets and audio guides before heading out, and allow more data for video or photo backups. Check hotspot support if you plan to share with a tablet or laptop.
What if my trip includes more than one country?
Combining Italy with France or Greece? Compare plans for each country with a regional option that lists all your stops. Include travel days when checking validity, even if you expect to be offline on a flight or ferry. For an Italy-only holiday, compare the price and allowance without paying extra just for wider coverage.
Choose a plan covering Italy and check its network partners for your island stops. You can keep the same eSIM wherever that plan has service, with data and validity remaining. Reception varies by location; a ferry journey does not include offshore connectivity. Save tickets and directions before boarding.
Can I use public Wi-Fi while travelling around Italy?
Italy’s tourism site points travellers to free Wi-Fi at participating businesses and cultural venues, plus municipal hotspots accessible through the WiFi Italia app. Check the locations and access steps before relying on them. Mobile data is useful for directions and train updates between Wi-Fi stops. Italia.it’s practical travel guide.
When should I install my eSIM for Italy?
Install on Wi-Fi before departure so you are ready when you arrive in Italy. Your installation instructions appear in My eSIMs after payment. Keep the travel eSIM switched off until you reach a covered destination. Understand installation and activation timing.
When does my Italy plan activate?
The live plans we list start their validity on the first connection in a covered destination. Installation alone does not start the clock. Each plan also has an activation deadline after purchase; check Details before buying. Enable the eSIM and its data roaming when you arrive.
Can I keep my usual phone number?
Keep your home SIM for your number and choose the travel eSIM for mobile data, if your phone supports both lines together. Turn off home-line data roaming and automatic data switching. Your carrier may charge for calls and SMS. Set up your two lines.
Can I receive texts and two-factor authentication codes?
Keep your home SIM enabled to receive texts sent to your usual number. Delivery abroad depends on your home carrier, roaming settings and the service sending the code; it is not guaranteed by the travel eSIM. Check your carrier’s roaming charges and set up an authenticator or backup codes before leaving.
Can I use hotspot and 5G in Italy?
All currently listed plans support hotspot sharing. Up to 5G is available on selected networks and plans. Speeds depend on your destination, device, coverage and network conditions.
Will I get an Italian phone number?
These plans provide mobile data without an Italian phone number or a calls/SMS allowance. You can use internet calling and messaging apps over data. If your accommodation needs a phone call or a service sends a text to your usual number, use your home SIM and check your carrier’s roaming charges.
Will it work if my phone is carrier-locked?
Your phone must be carrier-unlocked and eSIM-compatible. Use Check my phone above to check the device you are taking. Compatibility varies by model and purchase region. If your phone is locked, ask your carrier to unlock it before buying.
What if I cannot connect or need a refund?
Open your purchase in My eSIMs and choose Get help for guided connection checks and any available refund options. Refund eligibility and amounts depend on the service issue and data usage. Read our refund policy before buying.
