eSIMs for remote work

A backup connection for your working day.

Hotel Wi-Fi can be an unknown until you arrive. Give your laptop another way online, with enough allowance for the work you actually plan to do.

Plan my work trip

Decide whether mobile data is backup or the whole office

An hour of emergency hotspot is a different purchase from a week of working entirely on mobile data. List the tasks that must work away from Wi-Fi: email, shared documents, meetings, screen sharing or large uploads. Plan for those tasks first, then add your normal phone use.

If missing a connection would stop the workday, arrange another option before traveling. Ask about the accommodation’s internet, identify a usable workspace and download essential files. A travel eSIM is useful backup, but neither country coverage nor a 5G label guarantees reception at your desk.

Estimate the laptop, not just the phone

Your laptop can synchronize photos, download updates or back up files as soon as it gets online. Check its recent network usage and pause nonessential transfers when tethering. Video quality, meeting length and large attachments matter more than simply counting the number of workdays.

ShrimpToast’s Work / Hotspot estimate uses 2.5 GB per day plus a 20% buffer: 21 GB for a week. It filters for hotspot-capable plans, but it does not measure your meeting app. Use a higher allowance or dependable Wi-Fi if your measured usage exceeds that starting assumption.

Check the constraints a data allowance cannot solve

Employer access

Check travel permission, VPN requirements and device-management rules before buying. Some work devices restrict additional mobile plans. We cannot promise access to your company network, a specific internet exit country or compatibility with every VPN.

The place you will work

A supported local network may work differently indoors, at peak hours or outside a city. Test your connection before the first important meeting. Keep the phone charged and positioned where it receives a useful signal while hotspot is in use.

Keep the purchase proportional to the trip

For one working week in one country, a local plan may be enough. For a moving work trip, compare a regional allowance with separate local plans, checking each stop and the full validity period. A larger allowance does not help if the plan expires before your last meeting.

ShrimpToast compares eligible plans for the route and phone use you enter. If none meet a long or data-heavy trip, shorten the mobile-only leg or investigate local carrier service. Do not assume that future top-ups or validity extensions will be available for the profile you choose.

Before you choose: common questions

Can this replace a fixed internet connection?

Treat it as mobile connectivity, not guaranteed broadband. For all-day meetings, large backups or critical work, arrange reliable Wi-Fi or another connection as well.

How should I estimate video calls?

Our estimator uses assumptions, not measurements of your meeting app. Check recent usage on your devices and increase the profile or use the guided questionnaire if you expect more calls, screen sharing or uploads.

Will my corporate VPN work?

We cannot guarantee a particular VPN, office network or exit location. Confirm your employer’s travel and network requirements before relying on a plan.

Does 5G guarantee a smooth meeting?

No. Device support, local reception, congestion and the selected network all affect the connection. A plan’s 5G label is a capability, not a speed or reliability guarantee.
