Solve the arrival connection before the trip
Short business trips leave little time to compare phone plans at an airport. You may need directions, a car pickup and a message to a colleague before reaching hotel Wi-Fi. Check the actual destinations, including a transit stop if you plan to leave the airport and use data there.
Install using reliable internet before you need the service, following the purchased plan’s instructions. Installation and activation are not always the same event. Check when validity starts and the deadline for first activation, particularly when buying far ahead of a meeting.
Your work phone needs permission as well as compatibility
An eSIM-capable model may still be locked to a carrier or restricted by your employer. Confirm that adding a travel line is allowed and that any required VPN will work under your organization’s travel rules. A plan purchase cannot remove those restrictions.
Keep the work-number decision separate from the data decision. A data-only travel plan does not supply ordinary voice calls, SMS or a new local number. On a supported dual-SIM phone you may retain your home line, but its calls, texts and roaming charges remain subject to your carrier’s terms.

A trip built around office Wi-Fi may need only modest mobile data for journeys and messages. Lounge hotspot, a long video meeting or uploading a presentation can change that quickly. Check your recent usage on comparable workdays and account for the laptop as well as the phone.
The planner’s Work / Hotspot profile checks hotspot support and starts with a buffered work-use estimate. It does not guarantee meeting quality or network access. Keep important documents available offline and arrange another connection for a meeting you cannot afford to miss.
For several offices, compare the whole itinerary
A regional plan can reduce data-line changes between meetings, but check its exact destination list. The UK, for example, should be verified explicitly when shopping a Europe plan. If you return to the first country, include that visit and the gap in the validity check.

Can I use an employer-managed phone?
Only if it supports eSIM, is unlocked for the plan, and your employer permits adding it. Device-management settings may restrict installation even when the model supports eSIM.
Can I keep receiving texts on my usual number?
On a supported dual-SIM phone you can keep your home line active while using a travel eSIM for data. SMS, calls and any charges depend on your home carrier. Check those terms rather than assuming 2FA texts will always arrive or be free.
